An OBGYN (Obstetrician-Gynecologist) is a doctor who specializes in women’s health,
particularly in the areas of obstetrics (pregnancy and childbirth) and gynecology
(female reproductive health).

Obstetrics (Pregnancy and Childbirth):

  • Prenatal Care: Provides medical care throughout pregnancy, including regular
    check-ups, monitoring the baby’s development, and addressing health concerns.
  • Labor and Delivery: Manages labor and delivery, including performing
    cesarean sections (C-sections) or assisting in vaginal births.
  • Postpartum Care: Provides care for the mother after childbirth, including
    managing recovery, monitoring for complications, and supporting breastfeeding.
  • High-Risk Pregnancy Care: Specializes in managing pregnancies with
    complications such as gestational diabetes, preeclampsia, or multiple

Gynecology (Reproductive Health):

  • Routine Check-ups and Preventive Care: Performs regular pelvic exams,

  • Menstrual Disorders: Diagnoses and treats conditions like heavy periods,
    irregular cycles, and painful menstruation.
  • STI Screening and Treatment: Tests for and treats sexually transmitted

  • Surgical Consultations: The OB/GYN will explain potential surgical

    our providers will go over medical history, symptoms, and if surgical intervention
    is appropriate.

In-Clinic Procedures:

  • Colposcopy: A procedure to examine the cervix for signs of disease, often done
    after an abnormal pap smear.
  • Endometrial Biopsy: A sample of tissue is taken from the endometrium, the
    lining of the uterus. This procedure is usually done to help diagnose or rule out
    certain conditions affecting the uterus such as cancer, abnormal uterine bleeding,
    infection, or hyperplasia.
  • Vulva Biopsy: A procedure in which a small sample of tissue is removed from
    the vulva (the external female genital area) to be examined under a microscope.
    This procedure is typically done to help diagnose or rule out certain conditions
    affecting the vulva, such as infections, skin disorders, or cancers.
  • Polypectomy: A surgical removal of polyps (abnormal growths of tissue) from
    the uterus or cervix. These polyps are typically benign (non-cancerous)
    growths, but they can cause various symptoms or complications, such as
    abnormal bleeding or infertility.
  • Contraceptive Insertion: A medical procedure in which our provider places a
    contraceptive device into the body to prevent pregnancy. This can involve various
    types of birth control methods, with the most common being IUDs (Intrauterine
    Devices) and implants.

Management of Reproductive Cancers:

  • Cervical Cancer Screening: Regular screening and early detection of cervical
    cancer using Pap smears and HPV testing.
  • Breast Health: Monitors and screens for breast cancer, including performing
    breast exams and recommending mammograms.

Preconception Counseling:

  • Offers advice and guidance for women planning to become pregnant, including
    health optimization, genetic screening, and lifestyle changes.

Patient Education and Counseling:

Our pediatricians offer free medical check-ups to qualifying patients as part of Child Health and Disability Prevention (CHDP) Program

  • Who is a qualifying patient?
    • Children and youth under age 21 who are eligible and/ or enrolled in Medi-Cal.
    • Children and youth under age 19 with family income less than or equal to the current Federal Income Guidelines.
    • No proof of income or legal status is required for CHDP services.
